June 18, 1952 - January 13, 2020
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Larry. He was born in Comox, BC to Betty and Bob Mitchell on Hardy Road where he lived and raised his children. He passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2020 at the age of 67, surrounded by family.
Larry grew up in the Comox Valley and loved his simple way of life. He loved the forest from which he built his timber frame home. Larry enjoyed nature and reading books of all kinds. Larry was a talented musician and had his drums set up in his living room where he taught many of his children to play. He was in several bands over his lifetime. Many knew Larry as "The Wood King" and he was pleased to deliver top quality firewood to his happy customers. Larry was the proud father of seven children, Jillian (Oscar), Katie (Lucas), Scott (Darcie), Jennifer (Jamie), Shannon (Tristan), Jimmy (Dale) and Jack (Tatum). He was an uncle and a brother. He was a Grampa to ten grand children and two on the way, Kaiden, Lily, Jace, Leo, Macsen, Tyce, Sierra, Wesley, Kylee and Owen, and loved by his wife, Dianne. Larry's sharing of wisdom and sense of humour will be missed by his family and friends.
Thank you to Dr. Nap, Dr. McRae, Dr. Fehlau, VIHA and Homecare nurses.
For those who wish, donations in memory of Larry can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
Larry had requested that we have a fire on his property for his celebration of life and anyone who wanted to come could put a piece of wood on the fire for him.
We will be having this celebration on Saturday, February 1st at 1:30, rain or shine, at 2121 Hardy Road, Courtenay.
