BURCHELL, Leonard (Len)

May 16,1926 – May 17, 2010


With heavy hearts and cherished memories, the family of Leonard (Len) Roy Burchell announce his passing on May 17th, 2010, one day after his 84th Birthday at St. Joseph Hospital in Comox with his two special daughters by his side.


Len is predeceased by his loving wife Mary, parents, Clem and Alice Burchell, sister Marjorie. Len is survived by and will be lovingly missed by his daughters Marilyn (Rick) Harris, Gloria (Randy) Rickson, grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer), Shelly (Brent), Russell (Sophie), Jennifer (Ron), great grandchildren, Cara, Grace and Katelyn, sister Betty Emblem.


Len was born May 16th, 1926 at St. Joseph Hospital in Comox, raised on his parent’s farm on Knight Road, attending school in Comox. Len began his working career for General Construction, completing the runways at CFB Comox, General Hill (Campbell River), and the highway at Cook Creek. Len worked at his brother In-law (Dick Emblem) Comox Valley Machine Shop, and then found his passion to work in the logging industry. Len became a D8 Cat operator working for Comox Logging and Railroad, worked his way up to General Forman retiring in 1985 from Fletcher Challenge Canada. As Len would say, “this is the life” he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and his many winter trips to Maui. Len was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 56 years.

In lieu of flowers donations greatly appreciated to The Royal Canadian Legion Courtenay Branch or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday June 6, 2010 at the Upper Courtenay Legion, 367 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay at 1:00 p.m.
