Lewis "Sam"

September 16, 1935 - July 30, 2008

Sam died unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, July 30, at home. Although he had been battling lung cancer, his heart gave out before the cancer could claim him. He leaves behind his wife and friend of fifty-one years, Elaine, as well a his daughter Judy (Peter), son Glen (Colleen and Em) and sister Lorna (Bill).

Ssam had the good fortune of a loving family complete with grandchildren Nichole, Cory (Cindy), Amanda (Jon), Christopher, Danny, Timothy, Savannah, Mikhaila, Kaeli and Nathan.

Sam and Elaine started their married life in Jordan River where he was a faller but then enlisted in the military and spent the following twenty-seven years in Downsview, Trenton, Ottawa, Comox, Edmonton and ending back in Comox. He retired from the military and went to work at Safeway for the next fifteen years where he met a very special friend, Laurie (Wendel).

Retirement took Sam and Elaine on the road south. They enjoyed their travels and especially the wonderful friends they made. Sam enjoyed fishing, camping and helping at the Fish and Game Club. Anytime there was a BBQ, he was there helping in the kitchen or on the grill. His many friends and family will never forget him. We will always miss and love him.

A special thank you to Dr. Debra Wiens, Dr. Itta Winter and Dr. Shoesmith for your excellent care. Thank you also to the Home Care nurses, Comox Valley Hospice and the Red Cross.

His family will be spreading his ashes at Jordan River at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation.
