January 23, 1944 - October 2, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian (Nora) Evans. On the morning of Friday, October 2nd, 2020, with family by her side, and in her home of over fifty years, she passed peacefully in her sleep. Nora was born January 23rd, 1944 in Chemainus, BC, to James (Harry) and Claire Nixon, she was their middle child and had fourteen siblings.
Nora spent part of her childhood living with her grandparents in Crofton, BC. She also lived on Hornby Island and in the Comox Valley with her parents and many siblings.
While living in Courtenay, she worked on a turkey farm. One day, while plucking turkeys, she met the owner's handsome son. Although ten years her senior, she was smitten. Soon after meeting, between the bald birds, they married on February. 28th, 1964.
During their 53-year marriage, they established a dairy farm on the very fields in which they met. The couple had three boys together in four short years as well as a number of grand, and great-grand children not long after. Nora will be remembered for her dry sense of humour, mischievous smile, grandiose holiday dinners and devotion to her family.
She is predeceased by her husband Norman Evans as well as parents; Harry and Claire Nixon. Her sisters; Nancy, Sheila and Patsy, as well as brothers; Francis, Willie, and Johnny.
Nora is survived by her children; Dan (Kathy), Bob (Marnie, Andrea), and Patrick (Kimm). The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate healthcare workers of Vancouver Island Health Authority as well as the private caregivers and family members who supported her in her last years living with dementia.
