February 14, 1962 - August 23, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Lori Elspeth Hassard announces her passing on August 23, 2019, after a ten-month battle with bulbar onset ALS. Lori is survived by her husband of 34 years, Doug; daughters, Anna (Matt) Russell (Henry, Greta, and Phoebe) and Kimberley (Darsh Patel) Hassard and her dogs Penny and Piper. She is also survived by her siblings Heather Macpherson (Les Doll), Colin (Laurel) Macpherson, Ian (Lori) Macpherson, and Lynn (Randy) Headley; sister-in-law Val (Dan) Lemke; and mother-in-law Leona Hassard as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents James and Dorothy Macpherson and her father-in-law Garry Hassard.
Lori was born on February 14, 1962 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan and she and her family moved to Saskatoon when she was five. She attended Westmount and John Lake Elementary Schools and Aden Bowman Collegiate before enrolling at Kelsey Institute where she received a diploma in Biological Sciences. It was at Kelsey where she met Doug. They were married on March 23, 1985 and Anna and Kim arrived shortly afterward. Lori worked for over 25 years at the University of Saskatchewan, mainly with the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and later with Prairie Diagnostic Services as a Virology Technician. She was a dedicated employee who took great pride in her work. She retired in 2011, and in 2017 moved to Courtenay, BC where she and Doug built a new home. Lori was excited to live on Vancouver Island, as it came with a whole new set of gardening choices and challenges. She also enjoyed drawing, running, and grooming her dogs and was a member of the Newcomers, Garden and Coffee Clubs in the Comox Valley. Lori loved animals, flowers, and relaxing with a cup of coffee. She was very proud of her two daughters, their partners, and her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lori's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, with a reception to follow in the "Garden Room and Outdoor Patio" of the funeral home.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations made to your local SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
