August 19, 1925 - August 21, 2021
Lucie peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends at the Comox Valley Seniors Village after 96 years of vibrant living. Regardless of the situation or challenge Lucie always found the positives and built on them! A life well-lived!
Lucie was born on Saltspring Island and grew up working on the family dairy farm, orchard, and fishing camp on St. Mary's Lake. After graduation she managed the farm for several years before moving to Victoria in 1948 to care for her grandparents while working as a floral designer at the Posy Shop.
She met her future husband Mark in Victoria. They married in 1955 and together hand built a modern home on Harling Point in Oak Bay. Lucie gave birth to three boys, Guy, Ian, and Ross.
After the boys left home Lucie studied as a chef at Camosun College later working in the Eaton's Dining Room and Wayside House.
She enjoyed travelling around North America and Europe, frequently accompanying her father Bill to WW1 RAF pilots' reunions, and in later years visiting with family and friends. In retirement Lucie was also very active with the Oak Bay United Church.
In her later years Lucie moved to Courtenay BC to be closer to family. Despite a failing memory she was able to identify most native and cultivated plants encountered on her daily walks.
Lucie was predeceased by her parents Bill and Jean, brother George, and Mark. In-laws Don & Sonia, Mike, and Bob
She is survived by Guy (Liz), Ian (Jillian), Ross, in-laws Bev, and Fran. Lucie had many nieces and nephews. Lucie has six grandchildren; Celena, Sara (Curtis), Jenny (Nathan), Daniel, Garrett, Breanne (Spencer); and a great-grandson Matthew.
The family thanks Dr. Matt Robertson and the staff of Abbeyfield House, and Dr. Susan Hunter and the staff of Comox Valley Seniors Village for their tremendous care and support!
"Miss me a little, but not too long and not with a head bowed low, remember the love that was once shared, miss me but let me go"
