June 20, 2018
Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to lye (Eiko) Squires who peacefully passed away on June 20, 2018, in the North Island Hospital, Courtenay, B.C., at the age of 86.

Eiko was an elegant beautiful Japanese Lady who was born in 1931 in a small mountain village in the Gumma Prefecture. After graduating from high school she went to live in the port City of Yokohama. That is where she met her husband, Gerald, who at the time was a marine engineer with the China Navigation Company, whose ships frequented most ports in Japan. In 1959 they were married, in Yokohama, and then moved to the UK in 1960 where their daughter, Jacqueline, was born in 1963. The family emigrated to Canada in 1965 and their son, Andrew, was born in 1966. Eiko loved life in Canada and enjoyed gardening, making origami and travelling all over the world with Gerald.

She had a very happy life and was predeceased by her parents, Haru & Takemura Koshizuka, her eldest sister, Yasuko, her brother-in-law, Masami, and her niece, Keiko.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald, daughter Jacqueline, son Andrew, son-in-law Leo, daughter-in-law Veronika and her grandchildren, Rory, Cassandra, Nicole and Jess.

Eiko was loved dearly by her family and by every person she crossed paths with, including her many friends, as she had a lovely gentle nature and was very generous. She will be missed by us all forever.

We would like to extend our thanks to the following Doctors: Dr. Gee, Dr. Moise, Dr. Hatlelid, Dr. Manktelow, Dr. Singh, Dr. Shah, Dr. Zandiem & all the hospital staff for their excellent care & compassion.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
