With broken hearts we announce that our beloved Maia died suddenly on July 22, 2021.
Maia is a special spirit that lit up the lives of so many around her. With a huge sense of humour inherited from Grandpa Mike, she was the class clown and life of the party. She had a big heart for people and for animals, and was always willing to help someone in greater need.
After her mom Jo died when Maia was two, Maia grew up with her dad Tim and sister Bella on Denman Island—a special place where "It takes a clan to raise a child" is a way of life. She loved being in and on the water, salty, fresh, and frozen.
Left are her partner Brandon and family: father Tim, sister Bella (Aubrey), brother Chris (Ashley), Grandmas Jean and Diane, Aunties Sam and Brenda, Uncle Dan, Goddess parents Sue and Keith, cousins Elise, Josie, Natasha, and Kara. Gone before her are her mom Jo; Grandpas John, Mike, and Jim; and Aunty Cathy.
Maia also had many other families—her Denman family, Mt Cain family, Mt Washington family, VIHA laundry family, and her Party family. We would like to acknowledge the love and support of the islanders and numerous friends. Her friendship knew no bounds and it is a comfort to know many are with us.
We will celebrate Maia's life this fall with a beach fire. Donations can be made in her memory to Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society.
