Maretha passed away peacefully on June 16th, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, BC. Maretha was born at home on May 20, 1913 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. She lived on a homestead farm there until she met Harry Fredrickson when she was 19. They married and moved to their own farm in Bonanza, Alberta. They had two sons, Magnus and Dorval. In 1940 Magnus was kicked in the head by a horse and died of these injuries. In 1944 the remaining family moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta where Harry lived out the rest of his years. Maretha later married Bill Radley Sr. and lived in Dawson Creek. When Bill passed, Maretha moved out to Vancouver Island to be closer to the remainder of her family.
Maretha is predeceased by all her original family except her sister Harriot of Dawson Creek, her son Magnus, Harry Fredrickson and Bill Radley.
Maretha is survived by her son, Dorval Fredrickson (Francine), granddaughter Roberta Lacroix (Richard), grandson David Fredrickson (Terry), great-granddaughter Brieanne Stevenson, sister Harriot McCoy, and her stepson Bill Radley Jr. (Judie).
A Memorial Service was held on June 26th at Piercy’s Mt. Washington Funeral Home. Donations to any children’s charities or the Canadian Institute for the Blind would be appreciated.
