April 4, 1931 - June 17, 2020
"Maggie" was born to Peter and Ruth Germscheid on April 4, 1931 at home in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. It is with great sadness we announce that she unexpectedly but peacefully passed away in her sleep on June 17, 2020, while at North Island Hospital in Courtenay. She was 89 years old and could not believe that she had outlived 13 of her 15 brothers and sisters.
Maggie had overcome many hardships in her life and battled with her failing health for the past 3 years but had never "thrown in the towel" or given up. She was a fighter and fiercely optimistic that she would recover again and was not ready to leave us. Sadly, it was not her wish but her failing heart that gave up.
She was an amazing woman, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who possessed an incredible inner strength, a sharp, witty mind, and a feisty constitution. The timing of the Covid-19 Pandemic took its toll on her stoic spirit. It was tragic that she had to be isolated from her family and friends these past three months right up to the end when she needed them the most. It was her time to go and we all had no chance to say goodbye.
Maggie was predeceased by her parents, her 13 brothers and sisters, her first husband Phillip Cummings (2006), two of their children Robert Cummings (1969), Roxanne Cummings (1990), and her second husband Robert Fuhrer (2009). Left to mourn her loss are her treasured daughter, Lindy Berkowitz and son-in-law Jim, grandsons, Sean Whale (Karin), Nathan Berkowitz (Amy), Robert Berkowitz (Krystyna), great-grandsons, Dayton Whale, James Berkowitz and Evan Berkowitz, her two sisters, Berneice Dohm, and Joanne Saunderson. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, lifetime friends and her sweet little furry companion, "Pekoe".
Everyone who knew her loved her dearly. She was a force to be reckoned with and will live on forever in all of our cherished memories.
Cremation at Elk Falls Cemetery, Campbell River, B.C. Interment will be held at a later date along side her daughter Roxanne Cummings.
