November 19, 1925 – January 13, 2020
Margaret Josephine Vaughan (nee Foster), 94, of Nanaimo, passed away on the evening of Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with her children by her side. Margaret was born on November 19, 1925, in Cumberland, BC to John and Lillian Foster. John Foster worked in the Cumberland Mines.
Margaret attended Minto Elementary School and Cumberland High School and has shared many fond memories of her school years. After graduation Margaret pursued a career in nursing and worked as a nurse at Essondale Hospital in Coquitlam, BC. In June of 1947 Margaret married John Wyntour Vaughan and the couple settled in Nanaimo, BC where they raised their four children. Margaret spent many of her married years as a homemaker but also held positions at the BC Telephone Company, Nightingale Nursing Home, BC Hydro and Nanaimo Travellers Lodge.
Margaret could be described as a kind, caring lady who took pride in her family and their accomplishments no matter how big or small. She was a loving grandmother of seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret was pre-deceased by husband, John; sister, Florence and brother, Jack and is survived by daughter, Susan and husband John Little; son, John Vaughan Jr; daughter, Lois and husband Jack Foster; and daughter, Amy and husband Edward Leung. Margaret is also survived by grandchildren: Heather, Jeremy, Marie, Bailey, Marty, Meghan and Gavin as well as her nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.
Thanks to Dr. R. Janse Van Rensburg, the kind staff at Kiwanis Lodge, Nanaimo Home and Community Care and the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital who made Margaret’s final hours so comfortable.
Margaret will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
