HOLGATE, Marguerite Kathleen (nee Rennie), age 75, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2016 at The Views in Comox. Survived by the love of her life, Sid Dobinson, sister Dorothy Beaubien, daughters Katherine Edmunds (Mark) and Leslie Gallacher, and grandchildren Amanda Showalter (Kevin), Sean Gallacher, Jessica Fraser and Andrew Fraser. Predeceased by her parents, Ian and Marguerite, and brother Ian. Born in Truro, N.S., Marguerite grew up on Vancouver Island and lived in communities including Crofton and Campbell River before settling in Courtenay. She had fond memories of the family farm in Merville and her time in Ocean Falls. A gifted student, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Victoria where she was a President’s Scholar. Marguerite was a lifelong volunteer and a compassionate advocate for those with mental health issues, assisting in founding the Eureka Clubhouse in Courtenay. An avid reader, she wrote and published two books. She loved gardening, her cat Moses, Sid, and her family. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. George’s United Church on Saturday, July 23rd at 1:00 pm.
