1935 – 2006
Maria Opelka went to meet the Lord Jesus Christ on July 23rd, 2006.
She passed away at her home in Comox. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Frank, her son Karl with his wife Ellen, her daughter Gabriella with her husband Amir, and her granddaughter Lauren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Maria was born in Lang-Schwarza, Austria in 1935. She met her husband in Vienna and emigrated to Canada with him and her infant son in 1957. She lived in Montreal, Vancouver and Comox. Maria was a devoted wife and a loving mother who made every home a haven for her family. She was quick to start a conversation and always ready to make new friends. She was a faithful friend to many in the various churches she attended and in her community.
She was a smart, hardworking and diligent woman with a generous spirit. She loved to tend her gardens and bake strudels and Christmas cookies and share meals or coffee with her friends and family.
Her lovely smile and her sparkling blue eyes will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 2:00pm at Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, Maria would have wished donations to be made to the The Gideons International in Canada.
