April 18, 1936 – December 28, 2016

Born in Munich, Germany, Maria lived there through the Second World War before immigrating to Canada in 1961. She spent time in West Vancouver prior to moving to Comox to work with the Filberg family at the property now known as Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park.

Maria is predeceased by her parents Maria and Joseph Adlberger, husband Michael Poje and two step-sons Alex and Danny. She is survived by her brother Rudolf and sister-in-law Inge and their son and two daughters in Germany. In Canada, she leaves behind step-children David (Shari), Ray (Cathie), Janice (Darcy) Cousins and Brenda (Gary) Dane, Sandra Poje, Gail McDermid and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends here in the Valley.

Known as a caregiver and a kind soul who went out of her way to help, Maria was always quick to welcome company with cocktails and good cooking. She was thankful for her final days at Casa Loma (‘Shangri-La’ as she called it) and often talked of the charmed life she had lived over the decades and continents.

Private cremation arrangements. For those wishing, donations in her memory to the Comox Valley SPCA, 1668 Ryan Rd. E., Comox, BC, V9M 7Z8 in honour of the cats she loved (and who loved her back), would be appreciated.
