Marion Edna Bird passed away peacefully in her sleep, with her three daughters present, on November 19, 2016.

Marion was born in Owen Sound Ontario in 1931. Following high school, she attended the University of Toronto where she graduated from the Department of Physical and Health Education in 1956. A year later she graduated from the Ontario College of Education in Toronto and began teaching high school physical education. She left teaching to raise the young family, returning occasionally to supply teach. Marion and her late husband Doug were avid collectors of antique Canadian glass, and published two books on fruit jars together. After this, Marion’s chief interest centered on tracing her family’s genealogy. Marion and Doug retired to the Comox Valley in 1992, where they were surrounded with family and a caring community. To the people who came to know Marion, it is her love of knitting and giving for which she is most remembered. Over the years she lovingly made and gave away hundreds of pairs of slippers, mittens, dish clothes and other knitted items to everyone whose path she crossed.

Marion is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Douglas Arthur Bird, and survived by her daughters Jennifer Bird, Joan Pearce and Maggie Bird, and her six grand-children Maggie, Braela, Merin, William, Libby and Malcolm.

A celebration of life will be held at the Comox United Church that Marion and Doug attended, on Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 pm.
