Marjorie MacNeil

On February 16, 2022, Marjorie passed away peacefully at the Comox Valley Hospital in Courtenay from a very challenging respiratory illness. Although our hearts are broken, we are grateful she will finally be at peace after many years of declining health.
Born Marjorie Elizabeth Davies, Marjorie spent her childhood years in Victoria. She attended Willows Elementary School before moving to St. Margaret's School for her secondary education. After graduating from St. Margaret's, Marjorie moved to London, Ontario where she was trained as a key punch operator at the University of Western Ontario.
As computers evolved from key punch cards, Marjorie moved deeper into the world of computers. During her career she provided computer support to the University of Western Ontario, 3M of Canada and finally Canada Trust. Marjorie became very adept at providing training for the set-up and operation of computer networks.
Marjorie was a life-long learner who pursued many passions. She loved baseball and played recreational softball (always third base) through her teens and well into her twenties. She recorded all the Toronto Blue Jays games so she wouldn't miss one!
When Marjorie moved to Ontario she learned to downhill ski. As part of a ski club, she explored several ski resorts in Europe. She learned to fly small planes and was very proud to have earned her private pilot's licence.
During her time in London, Ontario Marjorie met and married the love of her life Roger MacNeil. When Roger retired from the Canadian Air Force, Marjorie and Roger made plans to move to the Comox Valley. Roger had many retired colleagues living in the Comox Valley and the West Coast was "home" to Marjorie.
Marjorie retired in 2002. On her final day of work, Roger picked her up in their motorhome and they began their long road trip across Canada. They would go on to spend many happy years in Courtenay.
In retirement, Marjorie's life revolved around her motorhome trips across Canada and the U.S., gardening, playing bridge, golfing and hosting family and friends at their home. She loved chocolate, digging for clams, playing with her dogs, organizing things, helping Roger with the Air Cadets and renovating her home and garden. Marjorie was passionate about her garden and spent long hours tending to her plants. She was especially proud of her many varieties of roses.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Roger, her brother Douglas, her stepson Leo and many years earlier her parents Allan and Betty Davies.
She is survived by her brother Allan (Fern), brother Gordon (Michele), niece Samantha, sister-in-law Shirley, step grandsons Kurt and Joshua MacNeil and their mother Susan.
Marjorie will be remembered as a kind, gentle, sometimes determined, but always generous person who enjoyed her family, her friends and occasionally, her solitude. She was much loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Michael Neufeld for the excellent care he provided to Marjorie during her long illness. Our heartfelt thanks to all the Classic Life Care workers for their dedicated assistance to Marjorie throughout the last two years.
A special thanks to the staff on the fourth floor at Comox Valley Hospital for showing such compassion and sensitive end-of-life care to Marjorie during her final days.
Marjorie's family is very grateful to Gillian Summers for her long-time loyal friendship, her devotion to Marjorie throughout the last ten years and especially for her caring concern shown during Marjorie's final difficult journey. Thank you, Gillian!
A Celebration of Life will be held at Marjorie's home from 2:30 - 4:30 on Monday, April 4, 2022.
