February 22, 1939 - March 6, 2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Martin St. Clair Mahoney, 81, of Courtenay, B.C. Martin was born in London on February 22nd, 1939 and was the youngest of nine children. He is predeceased by his parents and numerous siblings.
Martin leaves behind the light of his life, his loving wife of 50 years, Faye Mahoney. His love and devotion to Faye saw them joyfully celebrate their 50th anniversary together in August 2019 in the presence of their children, family and many friends. He will solely be missed by his 8 children: Brian, Michael, Tanya, Carissa, Sean, Donovan, Corrina and Mark, as well as 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, sisters Margaret and Patricia, numerous niece and nephews as well as a large extended family across Canada, UK, Ecuador and New Zealand.
Martin had several passions in life, namely God, singing in church, creating beautiful landscape paintings, traveling to Tofino, camping, teasing his grandchildren, caring for his son Mark and inspiring others to be the best that they can be. He loved his family more than anything, watching it grow and spending each holiday with as many as them as possible. He was a devout Catholic, a leader, a hard worker and he always put his family first.
Prayers will be offered at 10:30 am on Friday, March 20 followed by mass of Catholic burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Good Council Church at 4334 Jingle Pot Road in Nanaimo, BC followed by an internment at the Courtenay Cemetery at approximately 1:45 pm. A reception will follow the internment at 3pm at 3799 Piercy Rd Courtenay BC. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers please donate to Y.A.N.A.
