In Loving Memory

ALCOTT Mary (MacKay)

Mary Henrietta (MacKay) Alcott passed away peacefully July 8th 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, British Columbia. She was born in 1928 in Saskatoon.

When Mary was 6 her mother, Helen (Campbell) MacKay, drove Mary and the rest of the family, her father Hugh MacKay and brothers, Ron and Hugh, across the West to move to West Vancouver.

In 1948 Mary and Dennis met in Alert Bay while she was working at the hospital there and Dennis was working on building the new hospital. They spent almost 65 years together and raised 5 daughters in North Vancouver, the Okanagan, Langley and the Comox Valley. For more than the last 30 years Mary and Dennis have lived in the Comox Valley.

Mary never missed a chance to connect her family to each other with the latest updates or by hosting them with Dennis for many special life celebrations at their lovely acreage. When Mary slowed down she often lovingly reminisced about family, friends and the many places she traveled, worked and lived especially in B.C. and the waters on the West Coast.

She is survived and missed by her loving husband of over 60 years, Dennis, her brother Hugh and her 5 daughters, Denise, Heather, Kathleen, Susan and Juliet. Mary enjoyed the visits of her family including 9 grandchildren , 3 great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers in-law and nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank for their fine and compassionate care the nurses at St. Joseph’s, Dr. Law, Dr. Kenny, and Dr. Lamykina and the many ambulance attendants and medical workers who helped to add two treasured decades to her life.

Mary was truly loved and will be dearly missed by her family. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to your charity of choice. A family gathering will be held at a later time.
