Mary Eleanor Leach

Nov. 13, 1928 – Aug. 3, 2012

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister & Friend.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years Earnest (Ernie) Leach, her parents George and Phyllis (Nellie) Tufnail, granddaughter Kimberley, and grandson Geoffrey. Left to remember and mourn are her sister Pat (Arnold) Clement of Pentiction and brother George Tufnail of Oliver. Also daughters Linda (Gabe) Daku of Kelowna, Kathleen (Colin) Thatcher of Courtenay, Frances (Wilf) Anderson of Williams Lake, Phyllis (Dennis) Ogg of Kipling Saskatchewan, Shirley (Archie) Moffatt of Sayward, and Bonny Leach of Courtenay, as well as two sons Donald (Tammy) Compton of Comox and Lorne Fugle of Courtenay. She also had 20 grandchildren and step grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Also, she will be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary was born at Rock Bay, BC and lived the first few years of her life on Hardwick Island. The family then moved to Great Central Lake where she grew up. They then moved to Vancouver and later to Powell River where Mary met and married Ernie in 1947. In 1952 they moved to Little River Road in Comox where they raised their six girls. After moving to Courtenay in 1964 they adopted 2 boys. They then took in many foster children over the next 15 years.

Mom had a good life full of love from everyone who knew her. She prayed daily for all her family trusting them into Gods care. She travelled to Hawaii twice, to Israel and Greece and went on 2 cruises, one to the Panama Canal and one to Alaska. She loved the adventure of travel.

Through all her health issues she maintained her sense of humour right up to the end. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the Northgate Foursquare Church @ 2:30PM on Saturday, August 11th.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to The Gideons International in Canada or to the B.C. Lung Association.
