Mary (Merrie) Griffin passed away at “The Views” St. Joseph’s Hospital extended care unit in Comox BC.

Predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George and her brother Gordon Piper and sister Edna McPhail. Merrie will be lovingly remembered by; her son, Garry (Gretel); daughter Gina Stubbs (Simon); grandchildren, Danielle, Adam, Karli, Libby and Peter; as well as her many friends and relatives.

Merrie had a long full life. As a teacher fresh from “Normal School” she taught in a number of rural one room schools throughout the province. Then taught at the Elementary School in Vanderhoof were she met her husband George. They married in 1942 in Prince Rupert BC. She followed her husband with his banking career that took them to many communities throughout BC. Merrie was a dedicated volunteer with community service organizations and groups. She and George retired to Victoria in 1980, after George’s death (1998), Merrie moved to Comox to be closer to her son and daughter.

It was Merrie’s wish to be cremated and that no service be held. The family will hold an open house for relatives and friends to remember the good times at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Campbell River Community Foundation in Merrie’s memory at Box 734 Campbell River BC V9W 6J3
