In Loving Memory ~
Mary Lou died peacefully at the age of 94 with family by her side. Born and raised in Edmonton, Mary Lou graduated from the University of Alberta in 1955 with a B.Sc. in Public Health Nursing. The same year, she married Donald Lang, a recent medical school graduate, and together they moved to Barrhead (Alberta) and Bristol (England) before settling in Kimberley, B.C., in 1960.
Mary Lou had fond memories of the years spent in Kimberley raising four children and making lifelong friends. She and Don ensured their children had healthy, happy, and well-rounded childhoods. The family had some wonderful adventures, especially the year they lived in Australia.
In 1978, Mary Lou and Don moved to North Vancouver, where they enjoyed city life until moving to the Comox Valley in 1995. Mary Lou was an avid reader and was involved in various activities, including book clubs, walking groups, Probus, the University Women's Club, volunteering, and travel.
After Don passed away in 2019, Mary Lou's move to Berwick introduced her to new friends who brought her joy in her final years.
Mary Lou was a pragmatic, kind, and patient person who loved her family unconditionally and, in turn, was cherished by all. She will be remembered with respect and affection.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Wilson Lang; her brother, Bruce Dickson; and twin sisters, Jean Ormiston and Joan Dickson. She is survived by her children: Susan (Grant), Andrea (Clive), Barbara (Blair), and Graham (Caroline); eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
A celebration of Mary Lou's life will be held on Saturday, December 28, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at the Crown Isle Clubhouse (Silver Room).
Donations to the Comox Valley Hospice Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
