July 27, 1925 - March 30, 2021
Mary's family is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on March 30, 2021. Born in Owen Sound Ontario July 27, 1925 she was fortunate to live a healthy and active life filled with love and humor.
In high school, Mary met the love of her life and husband of 72 years, Charles (Chuck) Slemin. Together they shared a love for travel exploring many interesting parts of the world.
Mary had fond memories of living in Germany and Canada through numerous military postings, eventually settling in the Comox Valley where she and Chuck opened the "Doll Repair House" happily restoring antique dolls for many years.
Mary loved to volunteer and a number of local organizations benefited from her talents. She was a founder of both the Courtenay and Comox Museums, a life member of the D'Esterre House and the Catholic Women's League. She was a dedicated parishioner of Christ the King Parish and a proud recipient of the City of Courtenay Citizen of the Century Award.
Both Mary and Chuck will be forever thankful to their friends, neighbours and family, especially Pat and Yvan Bourgault, for helping them live in their home for as long as possible.
Predeceased by her parents and brother David, Mary will be sadly missed by Chuck, their daughters Patricia (Yvan), Johanna (Wayne), Charlotte (Ken), grandchildren Erika, Chris, Vanessa, Kyle, Kate, Emily, their spouses and nine great-grandchildren, her brother John (Violet) and sisters-in-law Barbara and June, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Law and the entire Care Team of the Comox Valley Hospital for the recent excellent care they provided for Mary.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 9, 2021. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation or a charity of your choice.
