RANGER - PICARD, Mary Stella (Shirley)


Shirley died peacefully at the St. Joseph's Eagleview Extended Care Residence.


Shirley was born to William George and Louise Ranger on November 11, 1920 in Nickbeau, Quebec. Shirley spent most of her life between Ottawa, Ont. and Levis, Que. She enjoyed sewing, music, and spending time with her family. Shirley lived the last six years in Courtenay BC.


Shirley was pre-deceased by her 12 sisters and brothers, her first husband Joseph Vanasse and her second husband Roland Picard.


She leaves to mourn, her three children, daughters Shirley Toner (Daniel), Linda McDonald (Dan), and her son Stephen VanViet (Deborah) along with eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.


The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Joseph’s Eagleview Extended Care residence for the care given to Shirley over the past five years. Shirley always felt that all the nurses were wonderful to her. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.


A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Christ The King Catholic Church.


In lieu of flowers donations to St. Josephs Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.


My tears are still flowing

The heartache refuses to go away

But I know we'll be united in Heaven

And never more to stray.


I held her hand and spoke softly

As she slowly faded away

Most precious, dear loving, Mother

We'll be together, again someday.
