September 1, 1930 - December 5, 2020
We are sad to announce the passing of Mary Tena MacKinnon due to complications from a brief illness. Tena was born on September 1, 1930 in D'Escousse NS, lived a large part of her life in Sydney NS, and Edmonton AB, and passed away on December 5, 2020 in Courtenay BC, at the age of 90. She is predeceased by her parents Alfred Boudreau and Obeline Boudreau (née Joyce) and her siblings Rena, Mary, Gerard, and Amos. Tena will be lovingly remembered by her husband William Joseph MacKinnon, sons and daughters-in-law Ken and Monique, Allan and Maria, Bill and Geneviève, and Gerrard, her grand-children Cyrus, Avery, Lia, Allana and Kenny, and her in-laws, nephews and nieces.
Tena was an amazing homemaker and spent so much time loving and caring for others, too numerous to list. She welcomed all with loving and open arms, and will forever be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She loved reading, long chats on the phone, hunting for bargains at thrift stores, walking in the park and at the mall, and in her younger days, swimming, dancing and riding her bike. She cooked amazing spaghetti sauce, tea biscuits and pies, and always liked trying new recipes "for a change".
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Doctors Bakshi and Moise, the Red Cross, palliative care, home care and support staff, for helping her to realize her final wish to die with dignity in her own home.
A small Covid-compliant funeral limited to immediate family will take place at 2 pm, Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Tena was never a big fan of cut flowers, so in lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
