December 2, 1946 - August 19, 2019
It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Maureen Ruth Davis on Monday August 19th after her courageous battle with cancer.
Maureen was predeceased by her daughter Sandra Yeomans who is survived by her husband Doug Yeomans. Maureen is survived by her former husband Jim Davis and their children Katherine Davis and Kenny Davis, her siblings Barbara, Bill (Kelly) and Kathleen (Gerald) as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Maureen grew up in Burnaby and raised her children in the Comox Valley. In her early thirties, she studied to be an LPN and then she began her long nursing career at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she was always passionately devoted to the patients in her care. After many years of service, she opted for early retirement, but as a hardworking nurse she had already become a dedicated volunteer at The Bay Community Church. Her church volunteer work continued well after her retirement until she finally had to focus on her own medical needs, but not before she had touched the lives of all her patients at St. Joseph's Hospital and everyone in her church community. Throughout her life, Maureen's deep Christian faith fueled her great strength that inspired her nursing career, energized her work as a church elder/prayer warrior and sustained her will to survive five years longer than her prognosis. And now her legacy will live on.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Maureen's devoted family physician Dr. Sara Sandwith, who kept us informed and supported as much as she could, so that we could be there for Maureen as effectively as possible. We are also thankful to Dr. Pedro Camacho and the staff of the cancer and blood clinic for their outstanding care of Maureen throughout her illness. And lastly, we want to recognize the wonderful compassionate ER team at Comox Valley Hospital, especially Bronwyn and Kim, who were always so positive and encouraging to us when we had very little time to make difficult choices. They enabled Maureen to leave this world with dignity and surrounded by her family.
