Our family deeply mourns the loss of our extremely beloved father, Jim Higginson. We are, once again heartbroken, only 3 months after losing our mother and Jim's wife, Sandy, of nearly 60 years. Dad passed away peacefully while in care in Kelowna. Jim was a three time cancer survivor and was a real life hero to his family. Losing Sandy, the love of his life, this past summer was very challenging for him and he missed her dearly every day following her passing.

Jim was predeceased by his father Henry, mother Florence and brother John (Dorothy). He is survived by his children Terry (Maureen), Bob (Denise) and Leigh; six grandchildren Alisa, Brandon, Tyler, Rylan, Cole and Logan; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Dixon; brother Dick (Sandy) along with many nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Winnipeg, MB and was the middle son to parents Henry and Flo. Dad grew up in Winnipeg and enjoyed sports and times with his friends. Following high school graduation, Dad became a carpenter by trade. He met Sandy while working on a construction site at a C.F. military base in Manitoba where Sandy was working as a clerk on the base. Jim and Sandy were married August 23, 1958. Around this same time, Jim was hired by CMHC and he became a very dedicated building inspector for the federal government. Sandy and Jim enjoyed raising their three children in the many western Canadian communities they lived in. Dad would describe himself as somewhat of an introvert but his family and close friends would say otherwise. Although he was somewhat of a private person Dad will be remembered as having a great sense of humour and he loved to have those around him, especially family, smile and laugh. He was intensely proud of his daughters-in-law and would forever defend them during whatever family discussions were on the docket for the day. Dad was a very dedicated father, husband, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle...an incredibly proud family man. His sense of humour, his kindness, his patience, his ability to teach, his polite, gentlemanly manner...will be deeply and forever remembered and missed. Family would like to thank the many dedicated health care professionals at Glacier View Lodge (Courtenay, BC) and at the Village at Mill Creek (Kelowna, BC), who cared for Dad over several years. Our family is forever thankful to Dad's few close friends whom we grew to know over the years. They each made Dad's life richer and much more enjoyable. He was a great Dad and a loving husband, having been enriched by others close to him.

At Jim's request, there will be no service. Family asks that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com. Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC 250-762-2299.
