WARREN, Melba F.

(nee Bennett)

November 28, 1922 – September 17, 2010

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Melba Warren of Comox. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 65 years, Duke, as well as her children, Bruce (Laura Lee McGibney) and Wendy (Ron McKibbon). She is also mourned by her grandchildren Kyra and Marc, her two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Aurora, her large extended family, and many friends.

Melba is survived by brothers Harold (Dora), Don (Iris), Garth (Sheila), Doug (Eleanor), and sisters Vernice (Bud) Rhees, Zina (Dean) Jensen, and sisters-in-law, Clair and Betty Bennett. She was predeceased by siblings Theron, Golda (Harry) Kincaid, Reid (Margaret), Keith, and Bruce (Lee).

Until meeting Duke after World War II, Melba had not been out of Alberta. After their marriage in December 1945, she supported him in his air force career and they moved 20 times in 25 years – all across Canada, and in England, Europe, and the United States. Upon arriving at CFB Comox in 1970, and finding their lovely home in 1971, Melba declared that she was never moving again. And she didn’t! The “Lady” Melba lived happily at home with her “faithful man servant” Duke until the last day of her life.

Funeral service will be conducted in St. Michael and All Angels Protestant Chapel (located on Military Row next to Glacier Gardens Arena) on Wednesday, September 22nd at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
