The family of Merle Riggins are saddened to announce Merle’s passing on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay, BC. Merle was born in Alexander, North Dakota and his family homesteaded in Rocky Mountain House, AB. He joined the army and served overseas during WWII. Merle trained as a mechanic at Ross Garage and then went on to own Doyle’s Garage in Rocky Mountain House. They moved to Prince Rupert when he worked for Department of Highways. The family then moved to Port Alberni where Merle worked for Mac and Blo as a heavy duty mechanic. Merle was always a social, easy going and fun-loving person. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Legion, camping, and fishing. In their retirement years, Merle and Alma spent time on Denman Island and winters travelling in their motor-home from Florida to the Arctic Circle. Merle loved all music and loved to dance. Merle will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Alma; sons Terry, Garth and Greg; daughter Debbie; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on April 22, 2017.
