Apr 2, 2018
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of Michael D. Holland on Monday, April 2, 2018; dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Mike was born in Claresholm, AB. With his Dad in the Airforce, his family was posted to the Comox Valley twice, with some years in between in Halifax and Nelson.

Mike was raised as one of four rambunctious boys. He had most of his schooling in the Comox Valley, graduating from G.P. Vanier and deciding to stay on when his Dad and Mom retired to Nelson.

After some years working, Mike studied at UBC, graduated with a science degree and entered UBC Law School. He was called to the Bar in 1984, came back to the Valley for an articling position with Jim Dow and started his own law office in 1985. In 1991, Mike and Chris Cameron became partners, forming Holland Cameron with their office in Comox.

Family was so very important to Mike; his wife and 2 daughters were the lights of his life. Mike was very much looking forward to the wedding of his younger daughter next year. His brand new grandson brought him such joy and happiness.

A community minded person, Mike helped with various groups. This included being a board member for Glacier View Lodge, and on the Board of Directors for the Comox Valley Hospice Society. Mike also volunteered his time and expertise to successfully prevent Glacier View Lodge's assets from being taken over without compensation.

He was elected to city council in 2002 and ran as the local federal Liberal candidate for the 2011 election.

Mike will be remembered for his great sense of humour, quick wit, being an avid golfer, his longtime interest in news as well as politics and especially his kindness and generosity.

He is predeceased by all his grandparents and his parents, Bill and Deanie Holland.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 27 years, Carol; daughters Laura (Ian) and Rosemary (Chris); brand new grandson, Theo; and brothers Ray (Margaret), Joe (Dianne) and Tony (Sherry Lynn). He will also be mourned by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.

A Funeral Service for Mike will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at Christ The King Church (1599 Tunner Dr., Courtenay, BC). Please join us in remembering Mike by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com.
