(1923 - 2016)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mildred Gordon of Courtenay, BC passed away on Monday, Nov 14 at the Comox Valley Seniors Village. She is survived by her daughter, Joan and son Donald. She was born to Olaf and Ragna Oslund in a small farming community of Ryley, Alberta in 1923. In 1948 she married Donald Campbell (Cam) Gordon beginning a love affair that lasted over 60 years.

Mildred was a private but strong individual who through-out most of her life exuded a dynamic energy. She loved entertaining and socializing with her extended network of friends, square dancing and strong black coffee. As a homemaker she was the quiet force that grounded her family, which moved both internationally and within Canada every 3-4 years due to the demands of Cam’s profession in the Canadian Air Force. However, this cycle of domestic relocation only furthered her desire to travel and explore the world as they travelled through-out Europe, Asia and the Middle East when not embarking on cruises to distant locales.

Special thanks to the team at Comox Valley Seniors Village for the extraordinary care and support they provided in her final months, especially the nurses and care aides on Wing D.

There will be a private service for family at Boundary Bay Cemetery.
