SANDERS - Mira, passed away peacefully at Eagleview in Comox on April 13, 2009. Mira is predeceased by her husband, Charlie Sanders in 1982 and her eldest daughter, Mira Morrison (Alan) from Cranbrook, BC in 2007. She is survived by her daughters, Xenia Osetsky (Rick Smith) from Thorsby, Alberta, and Nancy Penny (Arnett) in Scarborough, Ontario and her son Roy Sanders (Phyllis) from Merville, BC. She has many grandchildren: Kenny Leroy (Leanne), Rod Morrison (James), Alan Morrison (Danielle), Sheila Morrison (Jeff Bone), Maria Osetsky (Jason Caldwell), Donovan Osetsky, Meika Osetsky (Beau Foster), Annie Maier (Joseph), Carl Penny, Jill Penny, Tracy D'Alessandro, Jackie Penny, Sarah Sanders, Charlie Sanders, Katherine Sanders (Ronald Recinos), and great-grandchildren: Meika Leroy, Scott Leroy, Mackenzie and Kenadie Morrison, Isabella and Gabriella D'Alessandro, Hailey and Tanner Sanders, and Delynn Foster.

Mira was a longstanding member of the Catholic Women's League in Yellowknife, Peace River, and Comox and the League was a great support to her. In her earlier years, Mira opened her home to transient clients from the Yellowknife area, and the high Arctic who had to be hospitalized away from home due to illness or childbirth. Everyone loved to stay with her.

Mira was a wonderful storyteller and she loved people. Her life was full of adventure as she moved from Czechoslovakia to an island off Yellowknife, NWT and when she was widowed, to Peace River and to Merville in 1989. She was well-known for her beautiful knitting which she loved to give away. Her family was the most important thing to her and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Crowe, Carol Telford and Home and Community Care staff, especially all the home support workers who visited daily enabling Mira to remain in her own home so long, staff and participants of the Cumberland Day Program and the staff at Eagleview who cared for Mira so lovingly for the last year and a half. Family would also like to thank her devoted friends especially Bridgit Bradshaw and Joan Thurley and Bryce and Gail Mercredi for all their visits to Mira. She loved you all and felt you were part of her family.

Prayers will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 17th, 2009 at the Comox Valley Funeral Home at 1101 Ryan Road.
