~ October 10, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loving wife and mother, Monica Munro. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Elsie Mawson. Monica will be greatly missed by her husband of 48 years, Robert Munro, daughters Lorraine (Ron) Lines and Suzanne Munro, sister Eileen Robinson, niece Karen Foxall and nephew Michael Mawson. Monica was born in Lancaster, Lancashire, England and joined the Women’s Royal Airforce from 1956 to 1960 as a Senior Aircraftwoman (SACW). Monica met her soon-to-be husband, Bob, in Amsterdam while on holidays; she immigrated to Canada in 1963 shortly after her marriage. Monica worked hard all her life, working for Health and Welfare Canada and taking loving care of her family. Monica and Bob moved to Vancouver Island in 1989 and she became an avid walker in the Comox neighborhood. Monica died doing what she loved most - walking. A big heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Neurosurgery Unit of the Victoria General Hospital for their love, support and kindness. Gifts in lieu graciously accepted to Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Neuro Sciences, #602, 620 View Street, Victoria , B.C. V8W 1J6, in tribute to Monica Munro to further enhance patient care. A viewing will be held at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, B.C. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17th, 2009. A service will be held at Bob and Monica’s home on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., 1532 Dogwood Avenue, Comox, B.C.
