With deep sadness we announce the passing of a very dear mother and grandmother, Muriel Stewart.
Mom was born at Rock Bay in 1934 to Alberta and Val Nichols of Squirrel Cove, Cortes Island.
She moved to the Comox Valley in 1972 after the death of her first husband Bill Hawkins.
Later, she met and married Gord Stewart and enjoyed many years together travelling widely, until his passing in 2009.
In more recent years, mom suffered from dementia and lived her last years at Oceanview until her passing.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, nine older brothers and sisters, and one younger sister, first husband Bill Hawkins and second husband Gord Stewart.
She is survived by her son Steve (Judy) Hawkins, and granddaughter Emma Hayes, as well as many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
A special thanks to the great staff at Oceanview for all their care and kindness.
Donations may be made in Muriel’s name to St. Joseph’s General Hospital Oceanview Dept.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM on Saturday April 16 at the Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church, 2963 Lake Trail Road, Courtenay.
