May 10, 1927 - October 9, 2018
Tannis Mills passed away on October 9, 2018 at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock B.C., surrounded by her three adult children; Lisa, Harley and Rod.

Tannis was born May 10th, 1927 on the family farm close to the town of Belmont, Manitoba. Having been born much later than her older siblings; she experienced growing up as an only child. Subsequently, she developed into a self-reliant, creative and independent young woman. Tannis moved to Vancouver when she was 16 years old and finished high school at King Edward Secondary. In contrast to her solitary childhood, Tannis was outgoing and easily made friends. It was at the Toronto Dominion Bank on Broadway and 12th Ave where she held her first job as a bank clerk. It was there she met her lifelong friend Gwen Buckner and they remained steadfast friends for 75 years.

In the mid-1950's Tannis trained as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital but decided that teaching was a safer vocation. She taught elementary through senior secondary grades at various schools throughout B.C. but predominately in the Comox/Campbell River district and Victoria. While still working and raising a young family Tannis obtained her Bachelor of Education Degree from UBC in 1973. English and Business skills were her main subjects of teaching, and her aptitude for these skills led to her opening a side business in tax accounting with a 20yr run. In addition, she loved to study, analyze and trade in the stock market.

In 1986, her love of English and literature saw Tannis travel to China as a member of the Canada China Friendship Association (CCFA) where she taught English for 4 months. In later years, Tannis travelled back to China and was amazed at the transformation. A born adventurer, Tannis explored Japan, The UK, Europe, Latin America and took numerous trips throughout Canada and the United States.

After 50yrs of living on Vancouver Island, Tannis moved to White Rock in 2009 to be closer to family. She embraced the community, volunteering as a tourism host and attending local flea markets where she sold her 'treasures' along with a good story! Tannis often entertained at family events by playing her repertoire of ragtime and old classics on her beloved piano. She was a tour de force.

Her energy, humour and joie de vivre will be sorely missed. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Lisa Knight (Kate Alexander), sons: Harley and Rod Mills, grandchildren: Annick and Rowan Mills, six nephews, and many friends.
