JOHNSTONE, Norman Bruce

1923 - 2007

Norman passed away on April 20, 2007. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Christine of 50 years; his daughters: Marion (Andy), Denise (Bill), and Allison (Mel); his four grandchildren: Angus, Dillon, Megan and Paige; his nephews: Robert Johnstone, in England and Gordon Johnstone in Florida, U.S.A.;and nieces: Catherine Johnstone and Jan Pavey in England; his dear cousin Jesse Jacobs in Johnstone, Scotland and his beloved cousin Margaret Thomson in New Zealand.

Norman was born in Glasgow, Scotland. In engineering, he worked in ship buildinig on the Clyde, before coming to Canada in 1954. Landing in Quebec, he was employed by the Lachine Golf and Country Club in Montreal. From there, working and travelling across Canada, he put down roots in Calgary, Alberta, where he was employed in Court Services for 20 years, prior to his appointment as Court Registrar in Courtenay until his retirement.

Norman was a quiet man with a subtle sense of humour. He was a keen reader and was a member of the Courtenay Public Library.

Wherever he travelled, he always sought a golf course and graced the courses and links, on both sides of the ocean, as an avid and able participant.

We would like to thank all the caregivers at Cumberland Lodge, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and our deep gratitude to the staff at Glacier View Lodge for the very special care and kindness shown to Norman during his residence there, and to acknowledge Dr. Matous, his physician.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Glacier View Lodge, 2450 Back Road, Courtenay, BC V9N 9G8.

Cremation as requested and entrusted to Comox Valley Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road. Remains will be placed on the family gravesite in Scotland, and a memorial gravestone will be placed in Courtenay where the family will gather in remembrance.
