Orville (Orv) Sydney Coates

October 11, 1922 - January 5, 2010

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C. on January 5, 2010. He was predeceased by his wife Gwendolyn (Peggy) in July of 1979, his parents Andrew and Annie, brothers; Norman, Ronald and Lloyd, all of Sussex, New Brunswick. Orv is survived and will be greatly missed by his daughter Jenny (Jack) Nylund of Comox, granddaughter April (Bryan) Hofman of Comox, great granddaughter Shyanna Hofman of Comox, special friends; Andy Andrews and the Friday night beer “crew” (your friendship meant so much to him), sisters-in-law June Taylor of Campbell River and Marjorie Mintenko of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Orv served overseas in WWII, was stationed in Comox in 1961 and retired from the military in 1970 but returned to the DND as a carpenter until his retirement in 1987. In his leisure time, Orv enjoyed carpentry, camping and fishing and was an avid hunter and gardener. Orv was everyone’s Dad and Grampa and friend. If friends so wish, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Orv’s memory would be appreciated.

A poppy service will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 160 in Comox on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.
