James Joseph Maksuta

May 20, 1929 - December 8, 2004

It saddens me to say that my Mom, Patricia LaVerne Maksuta, passed away at St. Joseph's Extended Care on December 18, 2008 with me at her side. My Dad, James Joseph Maksuta, passed away four years earlier, December 8, 2004. My Mom, Pat, was born and raised in Toronto, the eldest of three sisters. She went to business college and then opened Morningside Hair Studio. Mom was always well "Put-together." Later in my Mom's life I had the privilege of doing her hair, going for long walks and sharing many Mother-Daughter moments with her.

My Dad, Jim, was born on the farm in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan, the eldest son of four siblings. Being raised on the farm taught him many skills that he used throughout his life. Dad moved to Toronto where he began Dalemount Construction & Sales. It was here that fate connected Pat and Jim together.

They were married at Christ Church Deer Park on August 23, 1958. I followed a year later. Mom chose to be a 'stay-at-home-mom'. Being an only child I was spoiled with love.

Dad used his considerable skills to build our cottage at Muskoka Lakes. Here is where many happy family memories were made. In 1973 the family moved to Oliver, BC where we owned and operated the Valley Motel.

I graduated and moved to Vancouver Island where I met and married my love, Gary. After their granddaughters, Lauren and Dana, were born, Vancouver Island become Jim and Pat's home. As the years passed I realized the love and devotion my parents shared with each other and our family. In my parents later years, as health issues arose, I was able to return some of the love and devotion they had shown.

So now I say goodbye to my parents with love in my heart. Should you wish to remember them, please reach out and 'touch' someone you love.

Love Always

Deb, Gary, Lauren and Dana Stevenson

I would like to thank the staff of Ocean View for the love and compassion they showed to my mother.

Jim and Pat will be interred together at the Courtenay Cemetery. A "Celebration of their Lives" will be held at the Comox Valley Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10, 2008 at 1:00pm. Please feel welcome.
