CHELLEW, Peter David passed away on Sept 4th, 2009 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital following complications from heart surgery. Pete was born on Sept 29th, 1935 in Sturgeon Falls, ON and proudly served in the Air Force for 33 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Verea and by brothers, Bill (Joyce), Evan (Ginette) Alvin, Brian and sisters, Ida and Kay. Peter is survived and will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Chellew; his daughters, Erin Robertson of Comox, BC and Jodi along with favourite and only son-in-law, Peter Lipohar of Ottawa, ON; much adored grandchildren, Brianne, Jacob and Nicholas; sister-in-law, Audrey Lahaise; brothers, twin brother Paul (Delores), Colin (Betty), Dick (Della), Dan (Irene), Ivan (Bev), Ross (Marilyn), Roger (Val); sisters, Mina (Henri, deceased) and Helen (Jack); nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. He will be lovingly remembered by special friend, Duke Reid; hockey buddy, Vic Crisp; fellow dog lovers, Lorne and Linda as well as by many family and friends at the RCAF Association 888 Wing, the Valley and around the world. Special mention to his most loving and constant companion, “Scooter” who is pining away and still waiting for his next adventure with Pete.

Peter was an athlete and avid sports enthusiast winning many awards as an all-star pitcher and goaltender during his service career. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends and particularly enjoyed the stories (lies?) replayed around the campfire each night. After retirement, Pete developed a fascination with recycling and will be remembered by many Valley residents as the friendly “can man”...great for the environment and not bad for the pocket book either!

Pete Chellew, 1935 - 2009

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

A Celebration of Pete’s life was held on Thursday, Sept 10th at the RCAF Association 888 Wing, Lazo, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
