Peter passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, December 10th with his family by his side, after a courageous 8-year battle with cancer. He was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital December 3rd, 1945. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Winnie and John Harkins, his sister Eileen Ball and his mother and father-in-law Doris and Bill Warren.

Peter is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Arlene; daughters Kelsey (Les), Tanya (Nathan) and grandchildren Rayna, Makayla, and Chedin. Also by his sister Mary (Jack) Nylund, brother John (Dianne) Harkins and sister-in-law Glynis (Joe) Dayman. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends will also miss him. Peter was a long time member of the Courtenay Legion Branch #17. He was fondly known as “Side Pocket Pete” and was the pool champion for many years and won his last championship this year. Peter was an avid golfer; he spent many happy hours golfing with his buddies at Sunnydale Golf Course. Peter was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed and kept his sense of humour to the end.

Peter was an employee at Diaryland for more than 30 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13th, 2003 with a tea to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Society or Leukemia Research Foundation. PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with arrangements.
