Feb 14, 2018
Surrounded by friends, family and live music, Phil Matthews finished his three year battle with cancer on the morning of Feb 14th, while strumming gently along on his ukulele.  We will never forget the sparkle in his eyes, his sense of humour and class, his beautiful singing voice, his unwavering love for his wife of 49 years, and the pride he took in his family.

Phil was a traveler and had a magical way with all people.  If you asked him how he came to have good friends in Arkansas, you would learn that he chatted them up at an ice-cream bar in Italy.

Phil was a hunter and fisherman, but also a gentleman, a romantic, a poet and a musician.  He could tie a fly, he could harmonize on any tune, and his foot never stopped tapping.  He was at home in the woods, floating on a lake, or gliding across a dance floor with his wife.

Beyond his loving support of his own kids, Phil is remembered as a kind and supportive coach, and was a founding member and great supporter of Sardis Kiwanis.

He leaves behind his wife, Patty, his daughter Julie (Jim), his son Cam (Summer), his grandchildren Hartley, Maisie, Ushuaia and Atigun, his sister Robyn (Richard), his nephews and nieces and too many friends to count.

A celebration of life will be held for his family and friends on Sunday April 15th 2-4 pm at 888 Wing in Comox.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Hospital or Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation.
