November 20, 1931 - May 10, 2021
On May 10th, 2021, the day after Mother's Day we sadly lost a mother to Roger, a wife of 64 years to husband Bill and many friends and relatives in the Comox Valley, Calgary, Lethbridge, Ontario, and the United States.
Pete was born in Battleford Sask. and lived in various small towns.
Her dad Herman Jutras a pharmacist and her mother, Fabiola an inn operator then moved to Vancouver Island when she was 10 and lived in a float house in Youbou where she took a liking to water.
Pete was the youngest and only girl in the family with four older brothers Claude, Maurice, Gilles, and Marcel, all of whom have since passed away.
Then on to Duncan and Nanaimo where she finished her high school at the convent. Then on to Calgary to find a husband and a job with Shell Oil.
Bill, an engineer, worked a block away and after a blind date and courtship she was married starting 64 years together. The secret being, he provided sustenance and she ran the household.
After two miscarriages she and Bill would form a family adopting Roger and Sandy. Roger and his wife Cathy still run the family business along with their son Christopher, (wife Laura).
Our other grandson Nicholas and wife Michelle have blessed us with four beautiful Great Grand Sons, Alex, Gavin, Nathan, and Oliver. We lost Sandy who was a VIHA councillor to a brain tumour two years ago at age 55.
Pete was always ready to join in the endeavours Bill would suggest or talked into such as a cottage at Chestermere, a permanent home on Lake Bonavista, sailing the Georgia Straight, building a cottage on Cortes Island where we spent 30 summers living off the sea life, believing that the table was set when the tide was out.
Pete and Bill did some travelling early on when it was easier including Australia, Italy, Britain, and SE Asia but the highlight was sailing with another couple in a 37 ft. bare boat charter in the Leeward Islands out of St. Vincent. Then finally enjoying life in the Comox Valley joining the Probus Club, the Yacht clubs the sergeants mess and the condo festivities prior to Covid.
Although Pete was unable to partake in the condo activities for some time, we will always remember our 50th anniversary, Aug 25th together with the golf tournament and the Kenkell Trocken libation.
Here's to you Pete, Sandy and Taiko.
