Richard Zala of Courtenay B.C, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s hospital in Comox, B.C. on April 8, 2005. Dick is survived by his wife, Nonie, to whom he was married for 49 years as of March 31, 2005. He is also survived by his two sons Don and Greg, daughter-in-law Janet, sister Muriel Smith, brother-in-law Don Smith, god-daughter Suzanne Nelson and sister-in-law, Bertie Kerekes.

Dick was born and educated in Victoria, B.C. He started his life-long career in carpentry and construction in 1948 by becoming an apprenticed carpenter in Victoria. In 1949, he began 41 years of service to his country - 25 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the next 16 years with the Department of National Defence. He was Canadian Decorated.

Dick was a happy man, with a unique sense of humour. He was a lover of life, devoted to his family, loyal to his friends, and a strong supporter of his community.

For all those who knew him, a Celebration of his life (social tea) will be held on Thursday April 14, from 1-3 p.m. in the Copper Room, Crown Isle Golf and Country Club in Courtenay.

In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Dick, to a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
