CAREY, Richard Michael (Mike)

Aug. 20, 1940 - Dec. 1, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike on Dec. 1, 2010 at 70 years of age. Born and raised in Courtenay, then re-locating to Nanaimo at age 31, Mike was a tried and true “Island boy”. His numerous jobs on his beloved Vancouver Island included driving logging truck and selling furniture, cars and RV's. For several years, he was sales manager at Anchorage Marina in Nanaimo and always remained passionate about boating.

As a younger man, Mike loved fishing, boxing, 55 T-birds, and a good party. As the years went by, he enjoyed playing cards at the Elks club, cheering for the Canucks, visiting with his numerous friends and “hanging out” with his ever faithful and loyal companion “Peek-a-Too”. Even as a young boy, Mike was a dog lover and would often bring home stray dogs for mom to look after. He was an avid gardener and was developing quite a passion for growing roses. His home was important to him and he was often re-modeling and painting...always bright and colorful ...much like the life he once led.

Always a gentleman, Mike will be remembered for his both generous and genuine spirit. He always flew his true colors and was kind, fun-loving and hard-working.

He is survived by his loving sister Leslie, brother-in-law Larry, nephew Aaron, niece Shari, their respective families, close friends and of course "Peek". Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will live forever in our hearts.

May God enjoy his company as much as we did.
