Bob Snr passed away on June 26, 2020 at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his wife, Donna, in 2011. He leaves behind Bob Joiner Jr (Sheila), Janis D'Andrea (Albert), Bonnie Phillips (Bob), Vikki Marrs (Mike), and Cheryl Hewlett (Don Hewlett), 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Bob moved to the Comox Valley in 1980 and was a local resident for many years before retiring in Victoria, B.C. The Comox Valley was always a very special place for him and he enjoyed running a number of neighbourhood pubs and hotels in the Valley, as well as in Powell River and New Hazelton. He loved spending time outdoors along the West Coast; fishing, camping, and road tripping with Donna in their Airstream trailer.
Bob was someone who always displayed a tremendous work ethic and loved building up
businesses and creating opportunities for others. Not only did he devote himself to his work, but he was also a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, pouring out love and laughter to those who were blessed to know him. He had a sharp sense of humour, a love for travel, and a passion for living life to the fullest. Always the life and soul of the party, Bob was known for enjoying celebration and fun. He brought so much joy to his family and friends. In his retirement, he and Donna spent many wonderful winters in Arizona and summers in Victoria.
His Christian faith was an integral part of his life and he attended the First Baptist Church in Vancouver during his formative years. He later became a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Courtenay, followed by St Andrew's Cathedral in Victoria. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and invested much time and resource into charitable works.
Even at 90, Bob was filled with life and always had a good story or two to tell. He had a laugh that would light up any room and positivity in abundance. He cared passionately for his family and was always cheering on everyone around him. In the words of his favourite singer, Frank Sinatra: 'I've lived a life that's full, I travelled each and every highway, but more, much more than this, I did it my way.' Bob, Dad, Papa - you certainly did! You truly will be missed and forever will live on in our hearts.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
