In loving memory ~
Robert Marriott, 68, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Comox, B.C., on November 2nd, 2024. Rob, Robby, Bob or Bobby, as he was known to many, was a fiercely loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. To say Rob was there for those in need would be an understatement. He found ways to exercise his loyalty and commitment to those he loved daily. Whether expertly wielding his chainsaw or jumping on his scooter to lend a hand when needed, he never hesitated to offer practical or emotional support to his community.
Although he was born and raised in Montreal, QC, with his siblings Alan (Carol), Catherine (Robin), and Janet, he made Vancouver Island his forever home after road-tripping west as a teenager. Travelling extensively and even working in Tanzania throughout his 20's, it was after buying his home in Point Holmes and combining families with the love of his life Janet and merging their children Laura (Brent), Ashley (Alex), and Thomas (Megan) that he settled into the happiest years of his life.
From a "Spacer from Hell" to a highly sought-after independent forestry contractor and sylviculturist, owning his own company as a safe certified faller, Rob's expertise and decades-long career were revered by many in the field.
It would be impossible to detail the reach of Rob's love and supportive character, serving as Point Holmes Association Director for over 20 years, volunteering for the Earl Naswell Christmas dinner service, acting as a founding member of the Shovel Buddies, or spending countless hours making personal playlists for those he loved were some of the many ways Rob shared his charismatic presence and wicked sense of humour.
His highly principled yet rebellious spirit meant Rob lived a beautiful and adventurous life, but in recent years it was through his role as "Grumpy" to grandchildren Ivory, Evie, Ginger and Dax, that he really shone.
If Rob were here, he would thank everyone for the flowers, food and cards but would probably tell you to save your money and instead enjoy a toke, a beer or a glass of wine and think of him.
Until we're all together again, love yer guts.
A celebration of life will be held at Rob and Janet's home in Comox sometime next summer (Rob's preferred season) when the warmth of the sun will allow for an outdoor gathering.
"In spite of ourselves, we'll end up a sittin' on a rainbow, against all odds, honey, -you- were the big door prize." I love you like crazy.
