May 19, 2021
Robert William Allen, 74, of Sechelt. B.C. left us on May 19, 2021. Robert valiantly fought cancer for many years until there was no fight left to give. Robert departed peacefully with his sons at his side.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Nancy Allen, and is survived by his siblings Cathy Watts, Greg (Gayle) Allen, Margot Allen, and life-partner Karen Lea.
He is also survived by his sons and their wives--Chris (Lisa) and Andrew (Ann) Allen. Most importantly Robert is survived by the four grandchildren he loved with his whole heart: Sedona, Owen, Aja, and Theo Allen.
Born in Comox in 1946, Robert grew up in Courtenay and completed grade thirteen with honours. In his youth he was a Queen Scout, played baseball, and read voraciously. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, camping & hunting. Summers were spent at the Little River Beach cabin with family and friends.
In 1967 Robert graduated from BCIT and began his career as a BC Land Surveyor, working across the province before settling in Sechelt to start his own company. Throughout his professional career, Robert traversed nearly every centimeter of the Sunshine Coast. After retirement, he achieved the rare honour of life membership status in both Canada and British Columbia Land Surveyors Association.
A family man and a consummate professional, Robert was also a committed community volunteer. A coach of multiple youth sports teams, chair of the library board, elected official--he did it all. His two long-lasting volunteer endeavours, to which he gave over 40 years of service each, were Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue and the Sunshine Coast Lions Club. Robert's generosity to his profession, community, and family may never be matched.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future when the time is right.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his honour to a community organization such as ABCLS Foundation, Robert W. Allen Spirit of Generosity Bursary; Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue; Sunshine Coast Lions Housing Society; or Sunshine Coast Hospice Society.
