Walter, a resident of Royston, BC, died peacefully at the Comox Valley Hospital on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Walter was born on October 9, 1933 in Zevenhoven, The Netherlands. He was the youngest of 7 brothers and 1 sister. In the spring of 1952 his family emigrated to Canada, settling in the area around Corination, Alberta.
Walter met his wife to be, Kuni, at a Boxing Day Dance in 1957, and they were married on February 7, 1959 in Corination and then settled in Fort St John, BC. In 1960, they moved to Edmonton, where the spent 9 years before moving to the Comox Valley in 1969.
Walter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kuni, his sons Jeff (Beth), Stephan (Lizzy), two grandchildren, Jonathan (Jeff) and Stephie (Stephan) and a great grandaugther Madison. He is also survived by his only sister, Trudy.
Since coming to the Comox Valley, Walter was always self employed, having owned several different business. In his spare time, Walter loved to go salmon fishing, especially when relatives came to town. He was also an avid reader.
But Walter's true joy was serving on the Royston Improvement Board having severed several times as the board chairperson. During his time on the board, he got the nickname of "Minister of Finance" because he was always watching out for the bottom line.
In later life, after his retirement, Walter enjoyed travelling to the warmer climates, first with the motorhome to Arizona, and then later flying to Melaque, Mexico.
As was his wish, a Mass of Christian Burial was held at Christ The King Church on Monday, March 15th, 2021 at 1 pm followed by urn interment at the Cumberland Cemetery.
