November 6, 1920 - August 27, 2019
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our dear father, Ronald Holmes Jackson, on Aug 27th, 2019 at The Views in Comox, BC, at the age of 98.
Ron was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 6th, 1920, eldest son of the late Robert and May (Buchanan) Jackson. He served in the British Army (Royal Artillery) during World War II from 1939 to 1946 in Britain, Europe and the Middle East. In 1940, he survived the attacks on the beaches of Dunkirk. It was during the war that he met Frances who also was in the British Army, and they were married in 1944.
After the war, Ron was employed with the Northern Ireland government until 1974, when he, Frances and daughter Hilary came to Canada. They lived in Manitoba where Ron was employed in Winnipeg with the Pollard Banknote Company until his retirement in 1985. In 1999 Ron and Frances moved to Comox, to be near their daughter and family.
Ron was predeceased by his loving wife, Frances Margaret in 2014 and his son, George Robert of Melbourne, Australia in 2018. He is survived by his son, Norman (Sandra) in England, daughter-in-law, June in Australia, daughter Hilary Renooy (Bruce) in Comox. Grandchildren, Sharon (Rick), Mark (Lyndsey), Michelle (Gavin), Michael (Symone), Joe (Laura), Jack (Brittany) and Rayanne (Ian). Great Grandchildren; Jake, Regan, Riley, Chloe, Lewis, Joshua, Ryan, Kobe, Milly, Beau, Jonathan, Timothy, Audreanna and Claire. He was a wonderful husband and care giver to our dear Mother and even though our family were separated in distance, his family was very close to his heart.
Ron was a member of the Comox Valley Presbyterian Church, and past-member of Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 14, A.F & A.M.
At Ron's request there will be no funeral service, but a private family gathering at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson's Society of BC.
Thank you to Dr. Potter-Cogan for his many years of care and also a big thank you to the Nursing and Care Attendant staff at Oceanview in Comox.
