Ron, a lifelong resident of Cumberland died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 4 2021 at 90 years old.
Ron started his working life in forestry and then in his early twenties began his life long career as a linesman with BC Tel. He belonged to many volunteer organizations over the years and enjoyed playing and coaching basketball and baseball.
Upon his retirement he enjoyed being chauffeur and number one fan for his kids and grandkids sports and dance. His favourite place to be was at Cabin 41 and he spent many hours on the front porch there.
Ron leaves behind his loving wife Mary, children Bobbie Ann, Margaret, Billy, Mary Jane (David), Peter, Ronna (Rob), his sister Roberta Roses (Bill) and sister in law Stephanie Jones. Ron was predeceased by his parents Robert and Nellie Aitken, cousin Karl Cameron, and son in law Sam Robertson. He was Papa to eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Ron also had many friends he met through the years that were a big part of his life.
Family invites friends to gather on Saturday, July 17 at 1:00 pm to share stories, memories and refreshments at the Cumberland Recreation Centre. The family would like to thank the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, BC Ambulance, RCMP and Lifeline for their caring support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cumberland Community School Society Food Share Program or a charity of your choice.
