SCHNURCH, Rudolf Herbert


Born in Landsberg Germany, August 9th 1916, passed away at St Joseph’s Hospital on July 13th 2010.


Rudi was predeceased by his wife Gerda, and sons Reinhard and Peter. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his son Jurgen (Janice), grandchildren, Kristy, Kelly, Chris, Leah, Kim, Katey, Matt, Joelle, and Steffie, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


A highly decorated veteran and survivor of WWII, Rudi was a Master Cabinetmaker by trade. He and Gerda immigrated to Canada in winter of 1951 and his first employment was at CFB Comox in 1952 as a carpenter. In 1962 he started his own company, Rudolf Schnurch Construction and subsequently became a very successful owner and manager of several local businesses including Courtenay Construction, Courtenay Lumber, and Comox Valley Ready Mix.


An avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years, Rudi was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and a life time member of Kiwanis.

Special interests included, music and dancing, snooker at the Filberg, his painting group, and weekly “swimin with the women” exercise group.


A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 20th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Piercy’s Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery. Pastor Tom Kreusel officiating.


In lieu of flowers donations to the Faith Lutheran church would be appreciated.
